Exceptional Stoneware Jar with Folky Slip-Trailed Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "H.H. ZIGLER / NEWVILLE, PA," circa 1855, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, squared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated on both sides with an elaborate slip-trailed flowering plant featuring circular blossoms composed of swirled trails accented with spots. Brushed leaves extending from stem. Impressed with scarce H.H. Zigler maker's mark on underside. Excellent condition with a few very minor, short lines at base, which may have occurred in the firing, two minor rim chips, and a minor nick to shoulder molding. H 13 1/2".
