Rare One-Gallon Stoneware Butter Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "SAM'L I. IRVINE / NEWVILLE, PA," circa 1865, cylindrical crock, with squared rim, tooled shoulder, and applied lug handles, decorated on both sides with two tulips extending from a leafy stem. Impressed beside handle with Samuel Irvine mark. Excellent color and rare form for this maker. Crack from rim, extending onto underside, with a few nicks along the crack at rim. Small base chip. Two minor rim nicks.
