Scarce Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jug, Dated 1868, attributed to Samuel Irvine, Newville, PA, approximately two-gallon, ovoid jar with semi-squared spout, decorated with a two-stemmed tulip design below the date "1868". Additional cobalt highlights to spout and handle terminals. Hairlines on underside and base. Two nicks to side of spout and a tiny hairline to spout. Additional 1 1/2" hairline to reverse side of spout and a faint line in base of handle. In-the-firing 1 1/4" chip to side of jug.
