One-Gallon Stoneware Pitcher with Profuse Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1855, ovoid pitcher with semi-squared rim molding, decorated with a large and elaborate tulip plant bearing four blossoms, flanked by a series of swags on the left and right. Additional swag decoration flanking the spout and decorating the sides of the collar. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a forty-year Maryland collection. A 2" flake to interior, visible on exterior as a 5/8" chip. A top-to-bottom crack from rim on front, continuing a short distance onto underside, where it forms a small Y. A faint 1 3/4" line descends from this damage.
