Three-Gallon Open-Handled Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1820, ovoid jar with footed base, combed incising to shoulder, flared collar, and open loop handles, decorated on the front and reverse with an unusual flowering plant design, featuring open-centered blossoms composed of a series of swags. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Excellent, early loop-handled form with thin-walled construction. Tight lines throughout jar. Two rim chips. Traces of old paint to shoulder area.
