One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Cake Crock with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Baltimore, MD origin, circa 1830, cylindrical form with footed base, applied tab handles, and thin, semi-squared rim, decorated on the front and reverse with two large, open-petaled tulips emanating from graduated, leafy stems. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, from a forty-year Maryland collection. A 5 1/2" vertical firing crack on interior, not visible on exterior. A tight Y-shaped crack extending across underside, extending onto body of crock where it forms a second "Y" and a short line. Heavy chipping to foot.
