Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jug with Stenciled Rose Motif, Stenciled "JAS. HAMILTON / & CO. / GREENSBORO. PA.", circa 1875, semi-ovoid jug with tooling to spout and shoulder, decorated with a crisply-stenciled rose motif above large-sized James Hamilton maker's stenciling. Base with stenciled bold-faced "2" flanked by stenciled flourishes, above a freehand stripe. Provenance: Consigned from California. Some staining to handle, sides, reverse, and bottom edge. Otherwise excellent, essentially as-made condition with a small, in-the-making spout chip, which is glazed over.
