Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar, Stenciled "JAS. HAMILTON / & CO. / GREENSBORO / PA", circa 1875, cylindrical jar with semi-rounded rim, applied lug handles, and tooling to shoulder and base, the front featuring large James Hamilton maker's stenciling below an elaborate stenciled flowering vine design. Bold-faced stenciled "3" flanked by dashes at the base. Freehand stripes to shoulder and base. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: From an over forty-year private collection. A tight network of lines to the jar's left side, one of which extends a short distance onto jar's front. A 1/2" iron ping to one handle. A shallow in-the-firing chip to underside at edge.
