One-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Foliate Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, circa 1800, ovoid jug with footed base and heavily-tooled neck, the shoulder decorated with an incised foliate design highlighted with a mix of cobalt and manganese slip. Additional cobalt/manganese slip highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. Crazing to bottom half of jug. A minor in-the-firing handle chip. A 7/8" base chip and other minor base chips.
