Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Spotted Drape Decoration, Manhattan, NY origin, late 18th or early 19th century, ovoid jug with footed base and heavily-tooled neck, decorated around the shoulder with five groups of graduated swags with spotted interiors, meeting at the handle on the reverse. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example, purchased by the consignor decades ago. A 7/8" iron ping to side and other small in-the-firing flaws, typical of pieces of this age and origin. Some crazing to surface, probably in-the-firing. Shallow base chips.
