Very Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "FARRARS POTTERY / FAIRFAX, Vt", mid 19th century, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, coved rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with an unusual design of a brushed flowering vine flanked by two rows of spots. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. This jar is the first example bearing this mark we have ever offered. A 2 1/2" crack from rim on front, above a small in-the-firing contact mark / surface chip. A minor rim chip on reverse. A minor handle chip.
