One-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Batter Pail, Stamped "F.H. COWDEN / HARRISBURG, PA", circa 1880, ovoid pail with tubular pouring spout, handle at base, and wood-and-wire bail handle, decorated on the reverse with a stenciled design resembling a snowflake. Front decorated with wreath-like brushwork surrounding the base of the spout. Brushed cobalt highlights to ears and handle terminals. Includes tin lid. Spout with shallow chips and a small U-shaped line. Heavy chipping to one ear. Two rim chips. Wear to molding at base of collar. Worn spot to end of one handle. Staining to surface. Some bubbled spots to wreath decoration on front. Handle on tin lid is bent.
