Three-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Double-Bird Decoration, Northeastern U.S. origin, circa 1870, cylindrical jug with semi-squared spout, decorated with a cobalt design of two birds perched on a stem, bearing a tulip at the center. Decorated above with a freehand "3" flanked by wreath-like brushwork, underscored by a wavy line. Large areas of in-the-firing chipping and firing residue to one side. Some fry to decoration. Two short lines to base on front. Minor base wear. Some staining.
