Two One-Gallon Stoneware Jugs with Cobalt Decoration, New York State origin, circa 1870-1880, one with cobalt script advertising for "John J. Luther / Ballston", stamped "FORT EDWARD / STONEWARE CO / FORT EDWARD, N.Y."; paired with a jug with ornate slip-trailed "1", stamped "TROY, N.Y. / POTTERY". Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market lot, from a long-term private collection. Both in excellent, essentially as-made condition. Ballston jug with the black marker notation, "IL", on underside.
