Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar, Stenciled "EXCELSIOR WORKS / Isaac Hewitt, Jr. / RICES LANDING, PA.", circa 1875, cylindrical jar with heavily-tooled shoulder and "wax sealer" rim, the front featuring Isaac Hewitt maker's stenciling along with a stenciled flourish at the center. An in-the-firing contact mark to left side of jar. In-the-firing dryness to left side of jar. Chips to interior of rim. Minor chips to inner wax sealer rim. H 8 1/2".
