Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "NORTON & FENTON, / East Bennington, Vt", circa 1845, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, flared rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with a brushed design of two finely-brushed flowers and a bud emanating from a central stem. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. A 2 1/2" crack from rim on front. A 2 1/2" in-the-firing separation line on interior of rim. A shallow rim chip on reverse. An area of chipping to interior of rim. Some streaks of post-firing staining and a light glaze drip to shoulder.
