One-Gallon Stoneware Batter Pail with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "COWDEN & WILCOX / HARRISBURG", PA origin, circa 1865, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout and wood-and-wire bail handle, decorated on the reverse with a large brushed floral design featuring an unusual stylized blossom. Base of spout decorated with a brushed wreath design. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark, ears, and handle terminals at base on reverse. Includes 20th century copper covers. Restoration to base area on reverse, extending through handle. Restoration to spout. Approximately 3" restoration to rim on reverse. Some flecks of paint to shoulder on right side of batter pail's front indicate a possible restoration, or possibly only some unintentional spray from the restoration on the spout.
