Fine Westerwald Stoneware Jug with Applied Decoration, 18th century, highly-ovoid form with footed base, elaborately-tooled collar, and scrolled handle, the body decorated with molded and applied tulip motifs, the collar with relief designs of angel heads flanked by wings and hearts. Body of jug covered with cobalt slip and decorated with manganese highlights to tulips. Cobalt highlights to collar. Excellent decoration. A base chip. A crack and chip to base of handle. A crack and small chip to reverse side of collar. A short, faint hairline to front of collar. Other minor wear. H 8 1/2".
