Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Cobalt Double-Shield Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1875, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded rim with wax sealer interior, the front decorated with two stenciled Federal shields below a freehand stripe. Fry to cobalt stripe. Some lightness to stenciling. 1 1/2" crack from rim. 1 1/4" hairline from rim. A few rim chips and several small chips to inner wax sealer rim. Faint 3 1/2" line on underside, continuing 1 1/2" up base on reverse. H 9 1/2".
