Rare Hannibal, Ohio Two-Gallon Stoneware Advertising Cake Crock, Western PA origin, circa 1875, cylindrical crock with semi-rounded rim and applied lug handles, featuring the stenciled advertising "H. NEUENSCHWANDER. / DRY GOODS / HANNIBAL OHIO.". Finely-stenciled foliate designs incorporated into stenciled inscription. Freehand stripes above and below. Stenciled "2" with flourishes at base. A crisply-stenciled example, featuring rare Ohio advertising on an unusual form. Provenance: A fresh-to-the-market example from a forty-year Southern U.S. collection. Excellent condition with two small handle chips, one of which is glazed-over, two minuscule nicks to rim molding, and a small salt drip at base.
