Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Cobalt Decoration, Stenciled "JAMES HAMILTON & CO. / GREENSBORO, PA," circa 1875, tapered jar with tooled shoulder and thick rounded rim with wax sealer interior, the front decorated with James Hamilton maker's stenciling surrounding stenciled floral designs. Four surface lines on underside, two of which extend an inch onto base. In-the-firing contact mark at base. A few minor chips on interior of rim. Tiny piece of clay adhered to body of jar on front at base. H 9".
