Three-Gallon Stoneware Advertising Jug with Cobalt Parrot Decoration, Stamped "P.W. DUDLEY & CO / WHITINSVILLE MASS.," attributed to F.B. Norton, Worcester, MA, circa 1875, cylindrical jug with sloped shoulder and semi-rounded spout, decorated with a brushed and slip-trailed cobalt design of a parrot with crest and paddle-shaped tail, perched on a large leaf. Provenance: Purchased from a dealer in Bennington, VT. for $600 on March 27, 1988. Fry to cobalt. Small spout chip at upper handle terminal. Small stone ping on side of jug. H 15 3/4".
