Scarce Westerwald Stoneware Tobacco Jar, circa 1770, cylindrical form with tapering neck fitted and capped with a threaded pewter screw lid. Body decorated with two horizontal cobalt stripes. Incised "8" on shoulder. Two dents to pewter lid. Stopper insert lacking metal finial. Three hairlines from rim, measuring approximately 2", 1 1/4", and 1". Small base chip. A few other minor base chips, which appear to be in the making. H 6".
