Outstanding Westerwald Stoneware Medallion Pitcher, German origin, circa 1680, bulbous-bodied pitcher with flared base and tall, narrow collar, the handle with upswept lower terminal. Decorated on the body with three large applied medallions featuring heart designs. Applied decorations highlighted in cobalt slip, the surrounding area brushed with manganese slip. Rim and base with cobalt bands. Exceptional applied decoration and bold color. Small base chips. Two small flakes to shoulder. Chips to curled handle terminal. Small chip to side of handle. Spout chip. H 8".
