Glazed Redware Figure of a Goose, PA origin, third quarter 19th century, hand-modeled figure of a goose with turned head and incised wings, tail, and facial details. Lower back with three impressed circles. Figure is seated atop an octagonal base and decorated with sponged manganese over an orange ground with yellow clay flecks. Surface covered in a clear lead glaze. Underside bears a pencil inscription, which reads "MADE AT THE CLOISTER EPHRATA," though this information cannot be authenticated. In-the-firing separation between goose and base on one side, which does not continue through to other side. Unglazed section to goose's head and underside. Minor wear to tip of beak. Minor base wear. H 2 3/4" ; Length 3 1/2".
