Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Elaborate Cobalt Decoration, Stenciled "J.E. ENEIX / NEW GENEVA, PA," circa 1875, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with several freehand cobalt stripes and stenciled foliate design incorporated into Eneix maker's stenciling. Base decorated with a freehand "4" with dashes underscored by a cobalt stripe. Two contact marks to front. 14" diagonal crack extending from base under one handle. Spidering crack on underside, extending up reverse 4 1/2". Wear to surface around midsection. Handle chip. 1/2" flake or contact mark on reverse. H 14 3/4".
