Two-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jar with Lid, Stamped "J. SWANK & CO. / JOHNSTOWN, PA," circa 1870, cylindrical jar with rounded shoulder and flared rim, decorated on the front and back with a brushed cobalt tulip decoration. Impressed with "J. SWANK & CO." maker's mark below rim along with a two-gallon capacity mark. Includes original lid with two-gallon capacity mark. 11" Y-shaped vertical crack on front. 10" vertical crack from rim, continuing 5 1/2" onto underside. 2 1/2" hairline from rim. Small chip on interior of rim. Fry to cobalt. Chips to lid. H 12 1/4".
