Two Three-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jugs with Elaborate Albany, NY Advertising, NY State origin, third quarter 19th century, each of cylindrical form, one featuring an elaborate slip-trailed "3" below the cobalt-highlighted advertising, "PJ WALLACE / WHOLESALE / LIQUOR DEALER / 100 MADISON AVENUE / ALBANY," the other with large, slip-trailed floral motif with scrolled leaves and the cobalt-highlighted advertising, "R,S, & P,CUSHMAN / IMPORTERS AND / WHOLESALE DEALER IN / FOREIGN,BRANDIES,WHISKIES / WINES,&C. / NO 24 DEAN STREET ALBANY, NY." Provenance: William Bouck Collection. Wallace jug with fry to cobalt, a small spout chip, in-the-firing pings to surface, and staining. Cushman jug with handle broken and reglued, including a Y-shaped crack extending off from this damage onto spout area. Additionally, a small chip to spout, base chips, and staining.
