Two Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Jugs with Albany, NY Advertising, NY State origin, third quarter 19th century, a one-gallon jug with stylized spotted foliate motif, impressed with the cobalt-highlighted advertising, "CUSHMAN & CO., / Importers of / Wines, Brandies, &c. / Nos. 376 & 578 / Broadway, Albany N Y;" paired with a two-gallon jug with slip-trailed foliate and looping line decorations, impressed with the cobalt-highlighted advertising, "R S & P CUSHMAN / FOREIGN LIQUORS WINES & C / NOS 376 & 378 SOUTH BROADWAY / ALBANY NY." Provenance: William Bouck Collection. Larger with staining throughout, two spout chips, an in-the-firing contact mark to top of handle, and residue to spout and underside. Smaller with a few base chips, a short horizontal line at base on reverse, a hairline through middle of handle, a glazed over scratch and minor in-the-firing iron ping to shoulder, a small spout chip and minor spout nick, and a short line in spout.
