Two One-Gallon Stoneware Jugs with Albany, NY Advertising, NY State origin, circa 1875, both of cylindrical form with tooled spouts, one inscribed in slip-trailed cobalt, "William J. Hill. / 86 / Hamilton St. / Albany N.Y.," stamped "OTTMAN BRO'S / FORT EDWARD, N.Y.;" the other inscribed in slip-trailed cobalt, "Winchell & Davis / Wholesale / Wines + Liquors / Albany NY." Provenance: William Bouck Collection. Marked Ottman jug with heavy chipping around spout and light wear to surface and base of handle. Other jug with an in-the-firing chip (contact mark) to reverse, an in-the-firing base chip and a minor in-the-firing base nick, a minuscule nick to spout, a 4" horizontal line at base, a 1" glazed-over line at base, and minor residue to surface, the handle with a minor nick and 1" line along edge. H (of taller) 11 3/4".
