Rare Painted Woman Face Jug, possibly North Carolina origin, 20th century, molded face jug in the form of an African-American woman's head with original piercings through spout and original cold-painted surface. A small number of these face jugs have surfaced, all of which were reportedly made by a Mr. Nelson in North Wilkesboro, NC, in the 1920's and discovered in the 1990's. Provenance: Recently discovered in the Southeastern U.S. Includes wood and wire bail handle. Wear around original piercings at spout and a surface-level paint scratch above each piercing. H 13 1/2".
