Two-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Incised Floral Decoration, attributed to the Bissett Family, Old Bridge, NJ, circa 1823, ovoid jar with footed base, heavily tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated on the front with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a hanging flower with veined leaves. Reverse brush-decorated with a stylized foliate motif. Cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: W. Oakley Raymond Collection, including old stickers from this collection on underside erroneously attributing the jar to Joseph Henry Remmey. A few in-the-firing contact marks to surface. A slump to rim. Chipping around foot. H 12 1/4".
