Scarce Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Inkwell, Stamped "C. CROLIUS / MANUFACTURER / MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK," early 19th century, wide, cylindrical form with tooled rim and base, the top formed with a central ink hole surrounded by three quill holes; decorated around the shoulder with cobalt spots. Impressed on side with the maker's mark, "C. CROLIUS / MANUFACTURER," beside the words, "MANHATTAN-WELLS / NEW-YORK." A few chips to bottom edge. An in-the-firing ping to rim and proper left side of well. A few small rim nicks. Diam. 3 1/2" ; H 1 3/8".
