Three-Gallon Wheeling, WV Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Cobalt Decoration, Western PA origin, circa 1875, ovoid jug with tooling to shoulder and spout, featuring the stenciled advertising, "Henry Schmulbach . / No. 6 & 8 . / Monroe St, / Wheeling. / W . Va." Stenciled sunrise motif at center of advertising and stenciled wreath below. Further decorated above with freehand vining and a cobalt-script "3" flanked by dashes. Freehand stripe at base. Very nice condition with a small rim chip, a minor nick to molding at base of spout, minor wear to interior of spout, and some faint staining. H 16 1/2".
