Fine Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Pears Motif, Stenciled "Greensboro," Hamilton & Jones, Greensboro, PA, circa 1870, tapering jar with tooled shoulder and semi-rounded "wax sealer" rim, featuring a desirable stenciled design of two pears hanging from a leafy stem, below "Greensboro" stenciling. The pear motif on this jar is unusual in that it is a reverse stencil of what it typically used on pieces of this type. Some blurriness to the "Gre" in "Greensboro." Otherwise excellent condition with only minor flaws. A nick to shoulder molding on front. A minor piece of adhered clay on reverse. A tiny in-the-firing contact mark to shoulder molding on reverse. Some light staining. H 8 3/8".
