Fine Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "F. STETZENMEYER. / ROCHESTER.N.Y.," circa 1855, ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with a detailed, slip-trailed design of a flower with striped leaves and petals, the blossom with unusual kidney-bean-shaped center embellished with spots. Slip-trailed "2" above. Cobalt accent to maker's mark. Crisp slip-trailing and excellent color. Provenance: Purchased by the consignor from Ernie Graf around 1998. Very nice condition with only minor flaws. Two short surface lines to spout, not visible on interior. A short, glazed-over horizontal line to neck, connecting to a short, faint diagonal line. Some tight meandering lines to handle. A small in-the-firing contact mark below decoration and two small in-the-firing contact marks to proper left side of jug. Minor staining to reverse. H 15 1/2".
