Stoneware Jug with Elaborate Rochester, NY Advertising, NY State origin, circa 1830, highly-ovoid jug with semi-squared spout, impressed with cobalt-highlighted advertising, "E.(?)&H.G. SMITH / WHOLESALE DEALERS IN / GROCERIES PAINTS OILS / SALT FISH PROVISION & C. / NO. 29 EXCHANGE ST. / ROCHESTER N. YORK." Excellent condition with only minor flaws. A small in-the-firing iron ping to second letter in advertising. A few minor spout chips and two small in-the-firing flakes to handle. A small area of faint, in-the-firing crazing near base. Some mottling to clay. H 11 3/4".
