Five-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Bird Decoration, Stamped "BURGER & LANG. / ROCHESTER N.Y.," circa 1885, cylindrical crock with tooled shoulder, semi-rounded rim, and applied lug handles, decorated with flowering plant with fan-shaped blossom. Slip-trailed "5" to shoulder. Brushed cobalt highlight to maker's mark. Minor fry to cobalt. Rim chips, the largest on reverse, measuring 1 1/2". A 10 1/2" vertical crack extending from shoulder to base on reverse. A thin approximately 8" Y-shaped crack below proper right handle. Spots of staining to surface. A 4 1/2" Y-shaped line on underside. H 12 3/4".
