Very Rare Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug, Stamped "COOTTER(sic) & KENNEDY / BOSTON MASS," Northeastern U.S. origin, circa 1880, semi-ovoid jug with tall, flaring spout, featuring the impressed and cobalt-highlighted advertising for Boston saloon owners, Cotter and Kennedy. Remarkably, the Kennedy name in this advertising refers to P.J. Kennedy, the grandfather of John F. and Robert F. Kennedy. We are unaware of any other existing stoneware bearing the name of this firm, one well documented in various writings about these titanic figures in the history of 20th century America. Chipping to spout. Staining throughout. A small surface chip to front. H 14 1/4".
