Fine and Scarce Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Cobalt and Iron Decoration, Stamped "BOSTON / 1804," attributed to Frederick Carpenter, Charlestown, MA, 1804, highly-ovoid jug with footed base and heavily-tooled shoulder, decorated with an impressed and cobalt-highlighted drape-and-tassel motif above a large "BOSTON, / 1804" stamp. Dipped iron slip decoration at base. Provenance: Ex-Skinner Auctions. Heavy chipping to foot. A faint hairline to shoulder on left side, possibly in-the-making. Typical, minor in-the-firing flaws to surface. H 14 3/8".
