Scarce Three-Gallon Stoneware Jar with Incised Bird Decorations, Albany, NY origin, circa 1820, ovoid jar with tooled shoulder, vertical collar, and rounded lug handles, decorated on the front and reverse with an incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a crested bird with ringed neck and feather detail to body and tail, perched on a flowering plant. Incised with a dashed circle below one handle. Brushed cobalt highlights to handle terminals. Provenance: William Bouck Collection. A restored crack to underside, extending up to midsection of jar below one handle. A few small rim chips. Some light staining to surface. H 13 1/2".
