Two-Gallon Stoneware Jug with Incised Bird Decoration, Stamped "I. SEYMOUR / TROY," NY State origin, circa 1830, highly-ovoid jug with semi-rounded spout, decorated with incised and cobalt-highlighted design of a bird perched on a stylized leaf. Alternating straight horizontal line and wavy vertical line incising to wing and tail. Cobalt highlight to maker's mark and lower handle terminal. Provenance: Cathy Treffeisen Collection. In-the-firing fry/spalling to cobalt. An in-the-firing fissure to upper handle terminal. Some wear to proper right side of spout and minor wear to handle. Some dark residue to surface, primarily on jug's proper right side. Minor surface wear to midsection on reverse. H 14 1/2".
