Rare Half-Gallon Cobalt-Decorated Stoneware Pitcher with Stenciled Crown Motif, Western PA origin, circa 1875, ovoid pitcher with tall collar and tooled, semi-rounded rim, decorated on the front with a stenciled crown surmounted by a cross, applied between straight and wavy freehand stripes. Swag decoration to collar below a freehand stripe. Dash decoration to spout. Cobalt highlight to upper handle terminal. Possibly made to be sold by merchant, D.F. Haynes & Co., of Baltimore, Maryland. Excellent, essentially as-made condition with some in-the-firing discolored areas and a small piece of adhered clay on reverse. H 8 1/2".
