Fine Early Redware Pitcher, New England origin, late 18th century, thin-walled, ovoid pitcher with footed base, tooled shoulder, and heavily-tooled spoutless collar, the surface covered in a lead-and-iron glaze featuring mottled greenish to reddish-brown coloration. Provenance: Acquired by the consignor from the collection of Charles Montgomery, first director of Winterthur. Scattered glaze flakes to body. A 5" diagonal crack from rim with a faint 2" horizontal line extending through it. A thin 1 1/4" vertical crack from rim. Rim chips. A small base chip and a minor chip to underside. H 8 1/2".
