Four-Gallon Stoneware Crock with Cobalt Chicken Decoration, Stamped "WEST TROY, / N.Y. / POTTERY," circa 1875, cylindrical crock with heavily-tooled shoulder, applied lug handles, and semi-rounded rim, decorated with a slip-trailed design of a plump chicken standing on a stylized, looping ground. Cobalt highlights to maker's mark and capacity mark. Some flaking and surface lines to base. Minor staining to exterior. Water glass staining to interior. A surface line across underside, not visible on interior, forming a 3/4" T at base on front. A few very minor rim chips. A faint 3" surface line beside rear terminal of proper right handle. H 11 3/4".
