One-Gallon Stoneware Batter Pail with Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "SIPE & SONS, / W'MSPORT, PA," circa 1885, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout, pierced clay tabs, wood-and-wire bail handle, and applied handle at base on reverse, brush-decorated on the reverse with a stylized, wreath-like floral motif. Additional brushed decoration to base of spout. Cobalt highlights to pierced tabs, maker's mark, and handle at base on reverse. Provenance: Herb and Carol Hausmann Collection. Chipping around rim. Additional chips to molding at base of collar. Two adjacent chips to one pierced tab. A minor chip to opposing tab. Handle at base with a tiny chip and faint line. A minor base chip. Some staining. H 9 3/8".
