One-and-a-Half-Gallon Stoneware Batter Pail with Elaborate Cobalt Floral Decoration, Stamped "SIPE, NICHOLS & CO. / Williamsport, Pa.," circa 1875, ovoid form with tubular pouring spout, pierced clay tabs, and applied handle at base on reverse, brush-decorated on the reverse with a flower blossom composed of graduated daubs, hanging from a heavily-leafed steam. Additional related floral motif to front and accent at base of spout. Cobalt highlights to pierced tabs and handle terminals. Cobalt accents to maker's mark and capacity mark. Provenance: Herb and Carol Hausmann Collection. Loss to spout. Small rim chips. A 5/8" base chip. Two minor chips to handle at base. Some staining. H 10".
