Small-Sized Albany-Slip-Glazed Stoneware Harvest Jug, Inscribed "J C Golerhon / Sep the 28 98," probably Southwest VA origin, 1898, ovoid form with applied tubular spout and rounded arch handle, the surface covered in a chocolate-brown Albany slip glaze with incised name and date. There is a good likelihood that this jug was made for the "Joe C. Gollehon" listed in the 1880 federal census as a 34-year-old farmer in Marion, Smyth County, Virginia. Excellent, essentially as-made condition. H 7 1/4".
