Albany-Slip-Glazed Stoneware Face Jug, Stamped "Brown Pottery / Arden, N.C. / Arden, N.C.," circa 1940, ovoid jug with cylindrical spout and applied facial features, including oval eyes surmounted by pierced oval pupils, almond-shaped lids with incised lashes, brows with incised details, ears with pierced interiors, nose with carved nostrils, and open mouth with protruding lower lip and broken china teeth. Wonderful, surprised expression with the placement of the piercing in the pupils creating crossed eyes. Underside with "Brown Pottery" maker's mark underscored by an unusual treatment of two "Arden, N.C." stamps of different sizes. Missing handle. Chipping to proper left ear. Two nicks to proper right ear. Two minuscule nicks to spout. H 7 3/8".
