Alkaline-Glazed Stoneware Canning Jar with Stenciled Brown Slip Floral Motif, attributed to the Whelchel Pottery, Gaffney, SC area, late 19th century, tapering jar with rounded shoulder and flared rim, decorated in brown slip with a stylized stenciled flower blossom against a cream-to-salmon alkaline-glazed ground. Brown-glazed interior. Provenance: From a fifty-year SC collection. A crack across underside forming a 6 1/4" Y on front. A spot of surface wear to front. A small rim chip and minor wear to inner rim for lid. H 10 3/4".
